Introducing the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

As part of their 2022 Watches & Wonders releases, Swiss watch manufacturer Oris transform their iconic ProPilot watch into a new, edgy masterpiece. Fitted with their freshly launched in-house movement series and decorated with a trio of stunning dial colours, meet the new Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watches

Oris have built their reputation on a history of pilots watches with their first named the Big Crown launched all the way back in 1938. Over the years, the classic Oris Big Crown has evolved into several iterations one of these being the Big Crown ProPilot, a series of robust and legible aviation instruments defined by their knurled bezel and oversized crown at 3 o’clock. Then in 2019, the luxury watch brand introduced a watch named the ProPilot X which established many of the design codes of its predecessor but with more angular architecture and a bold skeletonised dial. For 2022, the very same design returns but this time with the brand’s latest generation of in-house movements, the Calibre 400 series, and a pure dial finished in a choice of three bold colours.

As mentioned, the edgy case of the ProPilot X returns on the new collection of Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watches. The cases are fully engineered from titanium and feature sharp, faceted features and a matching three-row link integrated titanium bracelet. On the 39mm diameter, you can also find the characterised fluted bezel of previous Big Crown ProPilot watches alongside an oversized screw down crown with crown guards. Together, with the screw down exhibition case back, these features ensure a water resistant rating of 100 metres.

Housed beneath domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, we are treated to a choice of three dial colours. The first is a grey dial treated to a black minutes track, printed indexes and Superluminova markers. The second is a turquoise-blue dial and the third a bright salmon pink dial, both of which elect white for displaying the hours, minutes and seconds. The hands themselves are done in steel and there’s a date window placed at 3 o’clock. From memory, this is the first time we’ve seen an Oris ProPilot watch fitted with stick markers, with Arabic numerals usually adopted. The overall look is pleasantly tidy and pairs perfectly with the urban-esque vibe of the titanium case.

Powering the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watches is the in-house Calibre 400 movement. Launched just last year, the calibre has received much praise from the luxury watch world for its 120 hour power reserve, anti-magnetic properties and chronometer-worthy accuracy of -3 to +5 seconds per day. Each design also carries a 10-year warranty and 10-year recommended service interval. You can admire the Swiss made movement in full through the exhibition case back.

The Oris ProPilot Calibre 400 watch collection is available to order now at a recommended retail price of £3,300.
