Bremont’s popular “Dirty Dozen” watch returns for 2023, debuting a new sandwich dial, vintage cues and a robust stainless steel case. The Bremont Broadsword Recon watch is a limited edition of 200 pieces and joins the Bremont Armed Forces collection, a line of military-inspired designs that celebrates Bremont’s close bond with the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder comments on the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch: “The Recon harks back to the original Dirty Dozen watches synonymous with military and exploration heritage yet feels incredibly modern on the wrist through the sandwich dial and a lovely saturated lume effect. We introduced a sandwich dial for the first time with our Bamford collaboration and absolutely loved the result so are thrilled to be bringing it back with this model also offering something that feels quite different within our Armed Forces stable of watches.”
Inspired by the Dirty Dozen watches created for the Second World War, the Bremont Armed Forces watch collection promises to adhere to the same strict specifications including high waterproofing, chronometer certification and robust case construction. The MoD hardened stainless steel case of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch ensures exactly that with a screw in crown at 3 o’clock, domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a 100 metre water resistant rating. The case back is also screwed down to help with the latter, and beautifully engraved with the Armed Forces heraldic badges. For now, the case back reveals lettering reading ‘Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces’ but this will later be updated once the King’s crest has been decreed.
The stainless steel case of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch measures to 40mm in diameter and 12.5mm in height and stays fixed to the wrist by a choice of three straps. The first edition of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch comes with both a grey and black striped NATO strap and an additional black rubber strap. The second edition comes with the same textile strap alongside a vintage brown leather strap. Powering the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch is the chronometer certified BE-95-2AV automatic winding movement with 31 jewels, a Glucydur balance wheel, an Anachron balance spring and a Nivaflex mainspring. We’re also promised a 38 hour power reserve and frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
One of the most significant features of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch is the dial, which for the first time in Bremont Armed Forces history is of ‘sandwich’ construction. This means there are multiple layers to the dial to create a satisfying, three-dimensional effect. The dial includes a bottom disc entirely coated in beige-coloured Superluminova while the top disc is finished in matte black and features cut outs for the numerals so the luminous material beneath peeks through. In the dark, the beige Superluminova glows bright green matching with the large hands for the hours and minutes. The dial of the Bremont Broadsword Recon Limited Edition also reveals a sunken small seconds dial at 6 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock.
