Jewellery & Watch News
With the coronation of King Charles III just days away, Fabergé is joining the rest of Great Britain in celebration with the launch of two stunning King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets. The designs join their popular Heritage family, a line that utilises their most complex jewellery making techniques. In the same way, the new Fabergé Coronation Crown Surprise Locket and Fabergé Gold State Coach Surprise Locket are handcrafted using precious materials such as guilloche enamel, diamonds and Gemfields coloured gemstones.
The Fabergé Heritage Coronation Crown Surprise Locket
The first masterpiece created by Fabergé in celebration of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla coronation this weekend, the Fabergé Heritage Coronation Crown Surprise Locket takes inspiration from the very crown used at the moment of coronation. St Edward’s Crown is one of the nation’s most precious treasures and has been used to crown English and British monarchs at their coronations since the 13th century. A stylised image of this crown has also famously be used on the coats of arms and other insignia in Commonwealth realms to signify royal authority.
For the new Fabergé Heritage Coronation Crown Surprise Locket, a miniature replica of St Edward’s Crown is placed at the very centre, crafted from 18 carat yellow gold and set with a range of coloured gemstones that mimic the very same used on the real treasure. You can spot 4 round blue sapphires, 10 round Gemfields Zambian emeralds and 2 round Gemfields Mozambican rubies. The crown also sits upon its own carved carnelian stone platform. When the locket is closed, you can admire the 18 carat yellow gold egg-pendant inspired by the original Imperial Eggs created by Peter Carl Fabergé. The exterior is decorated in red guilloche enamel and set with 17 brilliant cut white diamonds.
The Fabergé Heritage Gold State Coach Surprise Locket
The second installment into the House of Fabergé’s new King’s Coronation collection is this Fabergé Heritage Gold State Coach Surprise Locket. This time the pendant takes inspiration from the iconic Gold State Coach which since 1792, has been used to transport famous British kings and queens to coronations, jubilees, and other prestigious events. A miniature version of the coach is placed at the centre of the locket, handcrafted from 18 carat yellow gold with breathtaking detail and joined by a single white diamond on the carriage door. The coach sits upon a carnelian carved stone platform within the same 18 carat yellow gold, red guilloche enamel and diamond decorated egg.
To honour the King’s Coronation further, both of the Fabergé King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets will be stamped with a rare commemorative component mark that has been sanctioned by the British Hallmarking Council. The coronation hallmark has been designed by Thomas Fattorini, taking inspiration from a medal by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The stamp see’s the King’s head in profile. Commemorative hallmarks like this are only stamped on precious metal jewellery for a limited time, so these Fabergé King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets are likely to become highly collectible pieces in the future.
