When it first opened its doors in 1860, W Hamond became renowned throughout the country for producing modern-day jewellery designs. 155 years later and the iconic Whitby jewellery boutique is still manufacturing new, award-winning designs, but is now also famed for holding the world’s largest antique collection of Whitby Jet.
In a wonderful synthesis of old and new, one of the latest W Hamond jewellery collections now breathes new life into some of these antique pieces which have been collected restored. Providing a modern-day appeal with silver settings and subtle design twists, the growing collection includes a wide range of cameos, brooches, pendants, bracelets and necklaces, all of which have been given new life and offer both antique and modern designs for the discerning jewellery buyer.
Creating another link to the past and the heritage of Whitby town, W Hamond has been instrumental in the recent development of the Whitby Jet Manufacturers Association. Formed to provide assurance and confidence for those visiting the town that they are purchasing locally sourced Whitby Jet, all our boutiques form part of approved jewellery retailers and manufacturers.

In addition to bringing new designs to our visitors throughout our boutiques, 2016 has been a busy year for attending various antiques shows and events across the UK. Always ready to introduce new customers to Whitby Jet and please our existing ones with new designs and creations, we have travelled from London to Perth, and even journeyed to the Arizona dessert to showcase our collections. Our 2016 diary included visits to Harrogate Antique Fair, Antiques for Everyone , Great Yorkshire Show, Duncombe Park Antiques Fair, Galloway Antiques Fair at Scone Palace and the Gem and Mineral Show in Tucson, USA. Alongside our retail events, we kept the tradition W Hamond alive by exhibiting Whitby Jet at the UK’s largest national exhibition as we showcased our latest designs to the trade at International Jewellery London.
