If you’re a regular customer of ours, you’ll already know that our designs here at W Hamond – The Original Whitby Jet Shop are one of a kind. Year by year, our designs continue to transform the unique black gemstone into timeless pieces of jewellery that collectors from all over the world come to visit and experience in person. The Whitby Jet we incorporate into our all designs is of the finest quality and only sourced from the northeast coast of Yorkshire. It still remains important to us that our talented craftsmen maintain the same age-old techniques and processes that our workshop has always underpinned. Cross Hearts
Capturing the true spirit of the coastal town, our Whitby Jet Cross Heart creations celebrate the talisman for love with a timeless heart shape, beautifully carved by the hands of our expert stone cutters here in-house. From there, they’re embraced by a piece of gold or silver in the shape of a cross, creating one of the most versatile and timeless designs to enjoy every day. Added detail can be found in those designs embellished with a marcasite stone embedded at the centre of the cross section. With a bolt ring clasp to secure these special designs, the Cross Heart range is a versatile and diverse series to enjoy and collect and even expands into drop earrings showcasing turquoise, rose quartz amber and Blue John. Split Hearts
The Split Heart bracelet designs from our much wider collection of heart-shaped jewellery designs belong to our 'Heritage' series. Hand-carved and set into an organic heart shape, the gemstone pieces we use in each of our designs communicate our love for colourful precious gemstones and our endless passion for innovation. Unlike any other heart jewellery designs we’ve seen before, the Split Heart creations allowed us to experiment with colours and texture in a whole new way. The central section of gold or silver runs through the centre of the heart in a gentle curvature, separating one solid piece of gemstone into two sections or connecting two different pieces of stone together. In this design, our talented craftsmen combine the rich black Whitby Jet stone with white mother of pearl to create an abstract fusion of contrasting colours. The black and white together make for a particularly modern mix, while the traditional tones of the 18ct yellow gold setting work to balance the design perfectly. This beautiful Valentine’s Day gift comes complete in W Hamond packaging and, like all our designs, can be paid for in instalments.
Hand-Carved Hearts
Our hand-carved hearts are a timeless keepsake and, thanks to their minimalist beauty, can be worn with just about any outfit. Ideal for enjoying throughout the seasons of the year, the designs from this special collection can be enjoyed in Whitby Jet, Turquoise, Blue John, and Carrara Marble. A simple, elegant heart shape is carved out of a gemstone and beautifully mounted to a polished bale in each of these designs. The Blue John cabochon in this design shows off an entrancing network of veins and nuances as light hits its surface. Ready to make a bold yet elegant statement, the heart pendant hangs effortlessly from a polished sterling silver bale attached to an 18-inch chain.
Heart In Cage
Anyone who follows our designs regularly will already know that W Hamond is one of the few independent jewellery companies in the UK that creates designs celebrating the beauty and history of natural British gemstones. As such, our Heart in Cage necklace is a celebration of handcrafted jewellery design and showcases the traditional stone-cutting techniques we honour here in-house. The design features a three-dimensional piece of Whitby Jet shaped into a heart and suspended inside a captivating mesh of yellow gold. The 9ct yellow gold structure is polished to perfection, enabling the intense blackness of the gemstone to be seen from behind the branch-like structure. A polished bale hangs effortlessly from a matching 9ct yellow gold chain measuring a length of 18 inches, making this a perfect design to combine with other Whitby Jet jewellery designs from our collections.
