Oris have really impressed us during the Geneva Watch Days event of this year. Not only did they reveal a brand new 12H bezel on their Sixty Five Divers watch powered by their in-house Calibre 400 movement, but we’ve been treated to a trio of gorgeous unisex watches dressed in colourful mother of pearl. Choose from Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm Mother of Pearl watches in Blush Pink, Aegean Blue or Seafoam Green.
The Swiss watch manufacturer’s flagship diver’s watch, the Aquis remains the focal point of many of the brand’s latest designs of late, many of which have featured bold and bright coloured dials. Take the Aquis Cherry Red with its sunray-brushed red dial, the Aquis Date Upcycle watches with their displays engineered from recycled PET plastic or, similarly to the trio covered today, the Aquis Date New York Harbour Limited Edition which elects a gorgeous green mother of pearl gemstone display. Opting for a reduced case size than the latter, the new Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm Mother of Pearl watches mark their territory on the wrists of women or men with a love of smaller steel watches.
The cases of the three new Oris Aquis Date Mother of Pearl watches deliver all the familiar traits of the Aquis Date watch including strong screwed lugs, double-domed sapphire crystal glass and a stainless steel diameter of 36.5mm. A nice addition is the stainless steel bezel, one that remains unidirectional but presents its 60 minute scale in relief rather than printed on a ceramic insert. Other features of the case include a partially guarded screw in crown, an exhibition mineral glass case back and a water resistance of 300 metres. Each Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm Mother of Pearl watch also nominates a three-row link stainless steel bracelet with brushed centre link, polished outer links, and a folding buckle.
Of course it is the dials of the Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm Mother of Pearl watches that distinguish the trio from the rest of the collection. This certainly isn’t first time Oris have used mother of pearl before; we’ve seen the gemstone used on smaller lady’s models as well as the New York Harbour Limited Edition. The selection of colours however appears to be new with Blush Pink, Aegean Blue, and Seafoam Green providing something for every taste. They are all iridescent, shimmering uniquely in different light, and provide the hours, minutes, seconds and date through rhodium-plated hardware. The hour and minute hands are typically sword-shaped while the seconds hand has a nice lollipop tip, all coated in Superluminova.
Housed beneath the dial is the tried and true Oris 733 automatic winding calibre based on the Sellita SW200-1. It’s a 26-jewelled movement with a reasonable 38 hour power reserve and frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. As previously mentioned, you can admire the Swiss made calibre through the mineral glass case back including the iconic red oscillating rotor.
