Spring is no longer knocking, it has fully arrived and with it comes lighter nights, warmer temperatures and colourful, budding flowers. Inspired by the latter is our Whitby Jet Bloom jewellery collection which reinterprets the lucky four leaf clover in a series of contemporary sterling silver and gold jewellery.
For centuries, the four-leaf clover has held a special place in folklore and popular culture. As well as being a symbol of good luck and fortune, it has become a representation of faith, hope and love for many individuals around the world. The four-leaf clover's primary symbolism lies in its rarity. It is estimated that only one four-leaf clover appears for every 10,000 three-leaf clovers, making it a cherished and sought-after find. Its scarcity contributes to the belief that possessing a four-leaf clover brings immense luck and protection against misfortune. Interestingly, the four-leaf clover has gained universal appeal unlike most well-known symbols. It transcends geographical boundaries and is revered in diverse cultures worldwide. From Europe to Asia, people embrace the idea that finding a four-leaf clover bestows good fortune upon the discoverer.
Our Bloom jewellery collection is designed entirely in honour of the lucky four-leaf clover with the simple motif placed within a series of designer jewellery pieces. Our most popular four-leaf clover necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings are adorned with our famous Whitby Jet gemstone. Just like a four-leaf clover, Whitby Jet is a rare find. It is one of just a few natural organic gemstones in the world and its jet-black finish is completely unique to any other gemstone. All our Whitby Jet is sourced directly from the cliffs in the town of Whitby in North Yorkshire which lies just moments away from our Original Whitby Jet Shop situated at the bottom of the famous Abbey steps.
We take each piece of raw Whitby Jet stone and handcraft it in our Whitby-based workshops to create the stunning designer jewellery collections you see today. This includes our Whitby Jet Bloom jewellery collection which see’s the jet-black gemstone cleverly shaped into the image of a four-leaf clover. The stone is then set within a choice of sterling silver, 9ct white gold, 9ct yellow gold or 9ct rose gold to create the final piece. Most of the designs in our Bloom jewellery collection keep the metal simple and smooth for a contemporary finish while some rare pieces are detailed with a special ball edge finish for additional dimension.
There is a wide range of Whitby Jet Bloom jewellery pieces to choose from including simple four-leaf clover pendants, long necklaces with multiple Bloom motifs across the chain, matching bracelets and elegant rings. All of the creations are designed for easy, everyday wear. We also have a couple of Malachite Bloom jewellery designs which sees the four-leaf clover symbol dressed in a stunning green Malachite cabochon. These pieces beautifully bring to life the colours of a real clover and are often worn to celebrate holidays like St Patrick’s Day.
