Jewellery & Watch News
In a 21st century world where time is always accessible on the smartphone in your pocket, watches are no longer just timekeepers but accessories that bring us joy, make a statement and are the start of interesting conversations with other collectors and friends. The new G-Shock GMW-B5000TR-9 “TranTixxii” watch is just that, a timepiece entirely engineered for the simple pleasure of wearing it, boasting a lightweight, scratch resistant and colourful titanium case and bracelet designed by the Nippon Steel Corporation.
The third largest steel producer in the world and the largest steel manufacturer in Japan, Nippon Steel created the G-Shock GMW-B5000TR-9 TranTixxii watch with partner company TranTixxii™ whose mission is to create “titanium products that provide elegance.” Together, they developed the Titanium Alloy Super-TIX 20AFG, a material with all the characteristics of titanium but with twice the hardness and a glistening mirror finish. Titanium is renowned for being incredibly lightweight, around 60% lighter than stainless steel, with a high quality feel, gentle on the skin and high scratch resistant and corrosion resistant properties.
Titanium can also have its limitations, predominantly in its reflective sheen and its practicality in watch engineering. The new TranTixxii Super-TIX 20AFG alloy for the new G-SHOCK model, however, has satisfied all properties of surface reflectance, workability, and even radio reception, something always regarded difficult in conventional titanium materials, by combining optimum blending of chemical composition with fine metal structure control in microns. The metal is then taken one step further in the G-Shock GMW-B5000TR-9 TranTixxii watch, not only in its sheen and durability but in its unique gold ion plated finish which glistens in red, blue, light grey, dark grey, and gold.
Even with the metal case and the full titanium bracelet, the G-Shock TranTixxii weighs in at only 104 grams and measures to 49.3 millimetres in diameter and 13 millimetres in height. The strap is equipped with a one-touch three fold clasp while the case ensures further scratch resistance and legibility with sapphire crystal glass housed above the digital dial treated with glare-resistant coating. A screw lock back helps assist in a water resistant rating of 200 metres and protects the solar-powered movement inside which boasts an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month and an approximate battery time of 22 months.
The movement also delivers an extensive list of functionality including a Super Illuminator LED backlight, full auto LED light, time calibration signal reception, time calibration signals, 5 world time zones and 39 time zones including daylight saving, home city and world time city swapping and auto summertime switching. The G-Shock GMW-B5000TR-9 TranTixxii watch has several chronograph complications including a 1/100 second stopwatch and a countdown timer. You can also programme up to five daily alarms and receive hourly time signals and low battery alerts alongside a full auto-calendar with 12 and 24 hour formats, date and month display swapping and of course, regular timekeeping for the hours, minutes, seconds, month, day and date.
