The latest diving instrument in BALL’s long line of trusted watches, the new BALL Engineer M Skindiver III is a true modern-day divers watch fully integrated with an ultra-domed sapphire bezel, luminous micro gas tubes and a COSC certified in-house automatic winding calibre. Yet true to the Skindiver collection, the new series of 1,000 piece limited editions showcase several stunning vintage touches that are sure to appeal to collectors and retro watch aficionados alike.
The prerequisite of any diver’s watch is a highly legible dial, and that’s something the BALL Watch Company have never been amiss on. The BALL Engineer M Skindiver III Limited Editions are home to a total of 32 micro gas tubes found on the bezel, dial and hour and minute hands. The tritium gas tubes deliver incomparable radiance to any other luminous technology in the watchmaking world, shining automatically from the first sign of darkness. They do not require any recharge from the sun or any external light source and do not drain any of the power reserve. The markers also guarantee superior brightness that lasts up to 25 years.
Micro gas tubes are laid on a choice of two dials, the first a classic black dial and the second in ocean blue. Subtle red accents on the dial bring to life both BALL Engineer M Skindiver III watches alongside central hands for hours and minutes, a slim seconds hand adorned with the BALL “RR” logo at the base and a date window at 3 o’clock enlarged by a magnifier lens. Powering each of these functions is the Caliber 7309-C, an in-house movement which has been COSC certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute to be accurate to -4 to +6 seconds per day. The Swiss made movement also amazes with a power reserve of 80 hours and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal case back where the iconic “RR” emblem for Official Railroad Standard spins on the Cotes de Geneve decorated rotor.
The BALL Engineer M Skindiver III Limited Editions are presented in 40.5mm stainless steel cases and kitted out with one of the timepiece’s true highlights, the black sapphire bezel. It’s immaculate domed-shape construction is the result of a time consuming machining process and unlike most flat bezels, delivers a stunning finish with scratchproof properties and an unmissable brightness thanks to the micro gas tubes laid within. It’s design also fulfils all requirements for diving with a 60 minute scale decorated around the edge for measuring elapsed dive times and a ratcheted texture for easy grip while wearing thick diving gloves.
A 300 metre water resistant rating is guaranteed by a screw in crown and sapphire crystal glass while the movement is protected by a patented Amortiser anti-shock system which safeguards precision by absorbing any accidental external shocks. This technology also helps deliver a shock resistant rating of 5,000Gs and an antimagnetic rating of 4,800A/m. The BALL Engineer M Skindiver III watches in both black and blue are completed by classic stainless steel bracelets with folding buckles and diving extensions.
