Featuring one of the world’s most popular watch complications, Cyrus have expanded their legendary Klepcys line with the brand new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde watch. With a newly developed automatic movement at its core, the timepiece provides a handy second time zone function perfect for those of us ready and waiting to start exploring the world once again.
Living up to the brand’s legendary reputation synonymous with cutting-edge technology and a futuristic style, the new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde Limited Edition sets the brand apart from the competition. It’s a unique design, which is available in a choice of natural polished titanium, two-tone with a black DLC titanium bezel and all black DLC titanium, has been entirely engineered by Jean-François Mojon, a master watchmaker deemed one of the most highly skilled and prolific of the twenty-first century. He has carefully combined the brand’s hallmark features such as the double crown and iconic 3D dial to create a trio of limited editions that will cement themselves onto the wrists of globetrotters.
With painstaking detail, Jean-François Mojon spent much of his time during the design of the new Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde collection focusing on the customised automatic-winding engine which would power the new second time zone function. Working with his own team of skilled watchmakers, he developed the new CYR708 in-house automatic calibre which promises both reliable timekeeping accuracy and a breathtaking performance through the sapphire crystal case back. The mechanical movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, promises a power reserve of 55 hours and is wonderfully decorated with anthracite grey NAC bridges and a single-block oscillating mass which can be partly seen through the openwork dial.
As with all Cyrus watches, the dial is the centrepiece wonderfully illuminating the brand’s exceptional attention to detail and aptitude for unique design. The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde watches boast masterpiece dials achieved with overlapping layers that give the watch a depth that can only truly be appreciated in person. Its first layer is constructed from a sapphire crystal disc detailed with Arabic luminescent numerals for the local time. The crystal also exposes the upper plate of the CYR708 in-house movement which results in a masterful “squelette” effect and exposes subtle golden components from within. The display is completed by a blue lacquer rings for indicating the 24-hour second time zone and a subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock dressed in black PVD.
For the first time, the Cyrus Klepcys collection features a range of timepieces that are water resistant to no less than 100 metres. The trio of Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde Limited Editions, with their ergonomic cushion-shaped 42mm case and elongated lugs, can be worn around water with ease while providing a thinner and ultra-light finish on the wrist thanks to the grade 5 titanium case material. Characteristic of Cyrus watches, the Klepcys GMT Retrograde also features crowns at 3 and 9 o’clock that are easy to pull out and turn thanks to the caoutchouc rubber ring. The crown at 3 o’clock is used to wind the movement and adjust the hour and minute hands to local time which simultaneously rotates the blue central retrograde hand to indicator home time. Meanwhile the 9 o’clock crown allows the local time hand to jump by one hour each time every time it is pressed.
