Just Landed: The Garmin Tactix 7 Smartwatch

Jewellery & Watch News

Garmin have launched their new and improved tactical training smartwatch, the Garmin Tactix 7, which has its name suggests enters into its seventh generation. Offering a more durable and practical design than before, the outdoors wearable boasts a solar charging dial, improved health monitoring and a built-in flashlight.

There are three Garmin Tactix 7 smartwatches on offers: the Standard Edition, Pro Edition and Pro Ballistic Edition. The difference? The Standard Edition comes with all the features we’re about to detail below while the Pro Edition includes all that alongside solar-charging and as such an improved battery life of up to 37 days. The Garmin Tactix 7 Ballistic Edition offers the same solar lens and power reserve with additional software from Applied Ballistics. As for the mass of other features included, here’s everything you need to know about the Garmin Tactix 7 watch.

For the exterior, the Garmin Tactix 7 opts for a traditionally imposing 51mm diameter and height of 14.9mm engineered from tough fibre-reinforced polymer. On top, a handsome titanium bezel ensures additional scratch resistance as does the titanium rear cover and black silicone strap. For the Standard Edition, a sunlight-visible transflective MIP display allows for touchscreen functionality with a coloured display resolution of 280 x 280 pixels. There’s also a water resistance of 100 metres and a battery life of up to 28 days in smartwatch mode. This increases to 38 days thanks to the Power Lens display of the Pro Edition and Ballistic Edition Tactix watches.

One of the biggest improvements to the new Garmin Tactix 7 watch compared to its predecessors is the implementation of the flashlight, a feature which was first debuted on the Fenix 7. Sneakily built into the side of the case, the multi-LED flashlight provides quick access to a steady beam of light in either green or white with a simple double tap of the light key. Also incredibly useful for late night missions is the night vision function which allows you to switch between daytime view to night-time view so you can read the screen while wearing night vision goggles.

As always, the Garmin Tactix 7 watch retains its utilitarian design with the famous stealth mode feature, a tool which allows you to keep the watch operational but stop storing and sharing your GPS position and disable wireless connectivity and communication. There’s also the James Bond-esque kill switch so if security becomes an issue, your device is wiped completely of all user memory. The Jumpmaster mode is for those those brave enough to launch themselves from high altitudes. It has been programmed to military guidelines and helps navigate you to your objective once you’ve jumped.

The Garmin Tactix 7 watches also boast a huge range of navigational tools. The dual position format feature lets you sync your location with others by seeing both the universal transverse mercator and military grid reference system on the same screen. There’s also a projected waypoints feature, a direct-to navigation tool for leading you straight to a location of waypoint in the worldwide aeronautical database, weather reports, ABC sensors for altimeter, barometer and compass and multi-band GNSS support including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo. The Garmin Tactix 7 Standard Edition comes preloaded with TopoActive maps from your region as well as a public land boundaries tool so you know that you’re venturing where you’re supposed to be.

Other features for the Garmin Tactix 7, which although may not be needed during a stealth mission, will certainly improve your day to day lives at home include music storage for up to 2,000 songs, body battery energy monitoring, a wrist based heart rate monitor, Pulse Ox sensor, smart notifications, sleep tracking and a new HIIT workout profile.
