The ‘Whitby Egg’ Collection
Ever since we launched our exclusive Whitby Jet jewellery pieces in collaboration with Fabergé and their London atelier workshop, it has fondly been referred to and referenced as ‘The Whitby Egg’ collection.
Originally designed and created to mark W Hamond’s 160 years in business, the Whitby Egg remains one of our most significant and highly sought-after collections as it is crafted in partnership with the world’s most recognisable name in egg creations and jewellery design.
For those with any knowledge of Fabergé (or from any search online) will be aware that, over many years, there have been some famous and recognisable egg/jewellery creations. Providing a treasured heirloom for which the whole of Yorkshire can enjoy, we are proud at W Hamond that Whitby and the ‘Whitby Egg’ have become immortalised within that history and, alongside Derbyshire Blue John, have been the only British gemstones used in original Fabergé designs.
As for the limited-edition collection itself, a choice is provided between two distinctive Whitby Jet pendants (above). We offer the choice as paired Whitby Jet domes separated by a diamond centre finished in yellow, white or rose plated 18ct gold - which can also be adapted for charm attachments - or as a trademark Fabergé surprise locket in yellow or white gold finish. For the surprise inside, what could be more iconic than using a miniature Whitby Abbey which is detailed to exquisite perfection and sits on a platform of Whitby Jet.
In addition to pieces for iconic jewellery wear, the collection also includes a classic Fabergé ‘objet’ egg with an 18ct yellow gold vermeil design, featuring green guilloche enamel, round white diamonds and which opens to reveal an 18ct gold Whitby Abbey. All of which is mounted on a Whitby Jet base, which itself is framed by the iconic window design of Whitby Abbey (pictured above).
Both designs have been worked on by skilled W Hamond and Fabergé craftsmen and all the Whitby Jet used in the collection has been locally sourced and has passed through W Hamond’s workshop to finish their part of the process before it moved on to the next stage at Fabergé's London workshop.
