Bremont Launches MB Viper and Armed Forces Vulcan Limited Editions

Jewellery & Watch News

Fans of Bremont pilot’s watches have hit the jackpot this spring as the Henley-on-Thames watch manufacturer has announced the release of two brand-new limited editions. The releases are polar opposite in their design and mission; the Bremont MB Viper is a protype come to life created in collaboration with the Martin Baker ejection seat manufacturer while the Bremont Armed Forces Vulcan watch elects a traditional aviation aesthetic inspired by the Avro Vulcan jet bomber.

The Bremont MB Viper Watch

Back when Bremont first began testing its in-house ENG300 calibre, they partnered up with British aviation company Martin Baker to create a concept piece that could house the prototype calibres. The concept piece was designed to look like a watch, since it was strapped to the wrist of a mannequin during several tests. The tests included Live Ejection Testing, Zoom Temperature Climb Testing, Extreme Temperature Endurance, High Altitude Testing and Salt Fog Testing. Passing these tests with flying colours, the movement was eventually launched as part of Bremont’s Longitude collection and later in the Bremont Supernova, Audley and Fury watches. Now, it seems the prototype case has been launched in its own right as the Bremont MB Viper watch.

The Bremont MB Viper is a limited edition of 300 pieces crafted from a combination of high-performance aerospace materials such as aluminium and Grade 5 titanium. The 42.5mm Trip-Tick case includes a DLC Grade 5 titanium outercase with a vibrant orange anodised 6082 aluminium case middle and bezel. It ensures a 100 metre water resistant rating thanks to its screwed down crown and case back and offers scratch resistance with the flat sapphire crystal glass housing the dial. The bright white display is hard to miss, contrasting boldly against the rest of the orange and black design. It has two chevron-decorated hands for the hours and minutes inspired by the ejection pull handles seen on fighter ejection seats and a straight red seconds hand. The hands and numerals are adorned in Superluminova. Powering the time-only display is the in-house ENG352 calibre which is protected by a special anti-movement mount. It offers a 65 hour power reserve and can be admired through the Bremont MB Viper watch’s exhibition case back.

The Bremont Armed Forces Vulcan Watch

Distinctively different in design, and yet still undeniably Bremont in its DNA, the Bremont Armed Forces Vulcan watch commemorates one of the most iconic aircrafts in the RAF’s history: the Arvo Vulcan. The aircraft was operated from 1956 to 1984 by RAF pilots, famously known for providing part of Great Britain’s nuclear deterrent force during that time. Bremont beautifully honours the now-retired Arvo Vulcan through several special design features on the Bremont Armed Forces Vulcan Limited Edition. The screw down stainless steel case back is engraved with an image of the Avro B-1 Bomber and the heraldic badge of the Royal Air Force encircled with the inscription: ‘Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Bremont has confirmed that once the crests of His Majesty’s Armed Forces have been decreed, all case backs within Bremont’s Armed Forces collection will be updated accordingly.

The dial of the Bremont Vulcan watch also showcases several design details synonymous with the historic aircraft. For starters, the two subsidiary counters at 3 and 9 o’clock and beautifully embossed with different imagery. The small seconds has a two-toned three-dimensional camouflage design while a nuclear symbol appears on the elapsed minute counter. For the first time, Bremont also utilises elegant cathedral shaped hands for the hours and minutes which run alongside a RAF blue chronograph seconds hand. Powering the Bremont Vulcan Limited Edition is the automatic winding BE51AE movement with chronometer-certification and a power reserve of 56 hours. With every order of the 250-piece limited edition, you’ll get two sailcloth straps in RAF blue or camouflage print and a special pair of silver cufflinks. The cufflinks are crafted into the shape of the Vulcan aircraft and incorporate a piece of aluminium sourced from the original airframe of the Avro Vulcan XH558 ‘Spirit of Great Britain’.
