Jewellery & Watch News
For 2023, DOXA pays tribute to a gentleman that played a significant role in bringing their name to fame, American author and underwater adventurer Clive Cussler. The new DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch stands out against all other Sub 300T watches for its aged stainless steel case, compass-decorated dial and optional beige NATO strap.
For many luxury watch brands, getting their name out into the world involves investing a lot of money into marketing campaigns and brand ambassadors. Not DOXA, however, whose fame derived from a genuine love of their products. Before becoming a world-renowned novelist, Clive Cussler worked at a dive shop and on his departure to become a full-time writer, he was gifted a DOXA Sub 300T watch. This watch not only became an essential tool for his own diving escapades, but the leading character in many of his novels, Dirk Pitt, was described as wearing his own orange-dialled DOXA watch. Now in tribute of the author and his character, the Swiss dive watch manufacturer has launched the DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch.
For the most part, the DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch stays true to the original Sub 300T watch, offering a 42.5mm wide case with a 14mm height, a unidirectional rotating bezel, 1,200 metre water resistance and a screw in crown. The most notable novelty however is the unusual aged coating on the stainless steel which gives it a real “found-at-the-bottom-of-the-ocean” look. The metal has matte-like grey tones which extends across to the bezel with an inner 60 minute scale in black and an outer no-decompression scale in red. The case also has a helium escape valve and flat sapphire crystal glass.
To match with the worn look of the case, the DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch reveals a special beige-coloured dial decorated with an image of a compass. Again, the finish here really gives you the feel of a historic watch that has endured the conditions of the sea. It pairs its greenish hue with jet black painted markers and luminous hands. There are also some subtle accents of red spotted on the seconds hand, on the Clive Cussler logo and on certain numbers of the date complication. The numbers for the dates 7, 15, and 31 are displayed in red to reference to the author’s birthday (15th July 1931).
Powering the DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is the automatic winding Sellita SW200-1 movement which offers time-and-date only function, 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement is hidden from view behind a screw down case back which is engraved with a series of inscriptions depicting the names of shipwrecks and other historical artefacts that were discovered by NUMA, an agency founded by Cussler. The DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is delivered with two straps, the first an aged stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet and the second a beige NATO strap with an aged steel folding buckle.
The DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is not limited to a set number of pieces but is a numbered special edition.
