Summer is beginning to show its face here in the UK. The skies are clear and it’s just about warm enough to remove your jacket. Arriving just in time for the better weather, Swiss watch manufacturer Maurice Lacroix has unveiled a special edition Eliros watch perfectly suited to life near the equator. Meet the unique, gold-on-gold Maurice Lacroix Eliros Sunshine watch.
The Maurice Lacroix Eliros collection has been home to the brand’s range of stylish dress watches ever since its launch in 1996, embracing new trends and famously experimenting with bright colours. Hosting designs for both men and women, the Eliros has seen its understated aesthetic transformed in tones of green, pink, blue and silver. In 2020, the design was also unashamedly presented as a Rainbow Edition with a dial and strap endowed with a colour-changing PU material replicating the shades of a rainbow. Last year, the collection also celebrated its 25th anniversary and a rare Anniversary Edition Eliros was announced replacing the iconic Roman numerals with long batons and elongated Arabic numerals. Now, Lacroix’s passion for colour experimentation leads to the Maurice Lacroix Eliros Sunshine, a special edition inspired by the warmth of summer.
Maurice Lacroix describes the new Eliros Sunshine watch as “intended for individuals who seek pleasure in everything they do”, shunning conservative tones for an unmissable gold-on-gold aesthetic. As well hosting a yellow gold PVD stainless steel case, the warm sunny tones extend across the dial and strap with both endowed with a unique pyramidal texture and coloured using a special immersion technique. The strap is embossed calfskin leather and features the famous M logo on the side and a yellow gold PVD pin buckle.
Readability is not a priority for a watch of this aesthetic, with the dial of the Maurice Lacroix Eliros Sunshine showcasing matching yellow gold leaf-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and a slender central seconds hand. Designed to convey the essentials of time, the dial also neglects any sort of markers, minutes track or date window. Powering the time-only complications is a Swiss made quartz movement.
The Maurice Lacroix Eliros Sunshine Special Edition sits on the wrist at 40mm and like many of its siblings ensures a 50 metre water resistant rating. There is also a snapped case back and sapphire crystal glass placed front of house for instant legibility of the textured dial. Finally, with the purchase of each watch, you’ll get a special golden leather watch case which could just as easily be used as a clutch bag.
