Jewellery & Watch News
Designed in collaboration with Seoul KFEM, Oris have unveiled the new Oris Aquis Hangang watch as part of their mission to protect, clean and restore out world’s water. The release of the new limited edition focuses its efforts on the Hangang River in South Korea, an incredibly important water source which supplies water to the 10 million inhabitants living in the country’s capital, Seoul.
Unfortunately, due to years of neglect, the Hangang River has become badly polluted and is now in need of restoration. Alongside Seoul KFEM, part of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements, Oris will be supporting a series of clean-up days later this year where locals will be working along the river to pick up litter and clean up other harmful pollutants of the water. As well as cleaning the area’s main water source, the event will also raise awareness for the importance of clean water in Seoul and the effects littering and pollution can have. The sales of each 2,000 limited piece of the Oris Aquis Hangang watch will also help fund the Hangang clean-up project.
‘With every passing year, we grow more passionate about our mission,’ says Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer. ‘Conserving the world’s water is critical; it’s also possible if we work together. That’s the underlying message behind the Oris Hangang Limited Edition and every piece we create with our partners.’
As expected, Oris cut no corners in the design of the Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition watch, taking aspects of the river and bringing them to life in its creation. The stunning gradient green dial takes inspiration from the colours of the creek waters found at the Hangang’s source while the screw down case back is beautifully engraved with a map of Hangang’s path across Korea. Designed on their iconic Aquis model, the Oris Hangang watch remains a useful diver’s piece with a 300 metre water resistant case, screw in crown and stainless steel bracelet fitted with a folding clasp with divers extension.
The case of the Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition measures to a neat 43.5mm in size and is fitted with a unidirectional ratcheted rotating bezel, perfect for safely recording dive times. The bezel is fitted with a dark green ceramic insert which perfectly matches the shade of the dial. For optimal legibility under the water, the dial is decorated with Superluminova coated indices and central hour and minute hands. You are also treated to a small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and an internal date ring, all powered by the Oris 743 automatic winding movement with its power reserve of 38 hours.
