Seiko Launches 2022 Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

Since its launch in 2017, Seiko’s Prospex Black Series collection has continued to be one of the Japanese watch manufacturer’s most anticipated releases, debuting three designs all with a stealthy black aesthetic inspired by the sport of night diving. For their 2022 Black Series collection, the brand focus on their approach to legibility with a trio of Seiko Prospex Black Series Night Vision watches each adorned in bright green lume.

Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ King Samurai SRPH97K1 Watch

Based on the ‘King Samurai’ model launched last year, the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ King Samurai SRPH97K1 watch showcases all the characteristics attuned to its nickname including a sharp, angular case and sword-shaped hands alongside the ‘King’ improvements of sapphire crystal glass and a polished ceramic insert bezel. The bezel is expectedly finished in black with a 60 minute scale for diving to pair with the screw down crown, 200m water resistance and bold matte grey dial which for the first time reveals bright green lume across the hour markers, hands and bezel marker. The 43.8mm case of the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ King Samurai is engineered from stainless steel and treated to a black hard coating for a stealthy, utilitarian finish and secures to the wrist by a black rubber strap. Limited to 8,000 pieces, the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ King Samurai SRPH97K1 watch also reveals the Calibre 4R35 automatic winding movement with a 41 hour power reserve.

Specs:

  • Case: 43.8mm, black hard coated stainless steel, sapphire crystal, ceramic insert unidirectional bezel, 200m water resistance, screw down crown, screw down case back
  • Movement: Calibre 4R35 automatic winding, hours, minutes, seconds and date, 41 hour power reserve, 21,600vph frequency
  • Dial: Matte grey with green lume on hands and markers
  • Strap: Black rubber with black hard coated pin buckle
  • RRP: £590
  • Limited Edition: 8,000 pieces

Seiko Prospex Black Series Night Vision’ Tortoise SRPH99K1 Watch

Another reference launched only last year was the Seiko Tortoise which delivered the same barrel-shaped case as the Seiko Turtle but with a new compass bezel for use on land. As for the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Tortoise SRPH99K1 watch, much of the same specifications of the King Samurai arise including the Calibre 4R35 automatic winding movement with its 41 hour power reserve and luminous green hands on a matte grey dial for the hours, minutes and seconds. The case comes in a little smaller though, at 42.4mm crafted from the same black coated stainless steel with a 200 metre water resistance. On top, the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Tortoise watch reveals its land-based unidirectional aluminium insert compass bezel and on the case back, there is the unique addition of ground-to-air emergency signal codes. This limited edition of 7,000 pieces secures to the wrist by a black textile strap.

Specs:

  • Case: 42.4mm, black hard coated stainless steel, sapphire crystal, aluminium insert unidirectional bezel, 200m water resistance, screw down crown, screw down case back

Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Solar Divers SNE587P1 Watch

Finally, we have the Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Solar Divers SNE587P1 watch, which although at first appears much of the same as the previous two models, offers a very different kind of movement. The Calibre V147 is solar-powered and can be charged by both natural and artificial light offering a never-ending battery life and an outstanding accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. As for the case, it also offers the smallest diameter of 38.5mm and takes its architecture from Seiko’s famous 1965 Diver’s watch, also known as Japan’s first ever Japanese diving instrument watch which was famously worn on Japanese Antarctic Expeditions until 1969. It features a grooved 60 minute unidirectional bezel, a 200m water resistance, sapphire crystal glass and the new matte grey dial with green lume hardware. The Seiko Prospex Black Series ‘Night Vision’ Solar Divers SNE587P1 watch comes with a three-row link black hard coated steel bracelet and has a limited edition status of 6,000 pieces.
