Inspired by the greens of St Patrick’s Day celebrations? Take a look at our unique Malachite jewellery designs from our W Hamond Bloom collection.
The Irish have been commemorating the death of Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity for over 1000 years ago, yet the celebrations for St Paddy’s Day are as popular today as they ever were. During the 18th Century, the 17th March was made into a special feast day and today it is actively celebrated by the Catholic Church, as well as the Anglican Communion. Socially and culturally, people celebrate this historical moment in time by sharing drinks, eating good food and spending time with friends and family. In Ireland, the day is an official holiday but is also celebrated all around the world. The vibrant bars, public parades and vivid green decorations have all become traditions in celebrating St Paddy’s Day with loved ones and family. Another tradition is to dress in something green or to wear a piece of green jewellery – a colour associated with the country and the famous Shamrock.
Green is not the most common colour used in gemstone jewellery design. But the entrancing deep green hues of Emerald and other stones like Tourmaline and Perridot have popularised the trend. Malachite, though it may be the lesser heard of out of all four, is another great option. It’s a stone we feature throughout one of our most popular signature jewellery collections – Bloom.
The W Hamond Bloom Jewellery Collection
The Bloom jewellery collection is home to a vast array of creations featuring Whitby Jet, Blue Joh and Mother of Pearl. Some of these gemstones have formed the backbone of our identity here at W Hamond as a leading, independent-run jewellery business, particularly our Whitby Jet creations. But should you be looking for the perfect statement piece this St Patrick’s Day, or just want to liven up your jewellery collection with a touch of colour, our Malachite jewellery designs are just the ticket.
The Unique Malachite Stone
Malachite is an ornamental stone with a unique appearance. Its rich green hues are intercepted by black streaks, which add depth and mystery to the stone. Given the folklore surrounding St Patrick’s Day and the lucky symbol associated with the four-leaf clover, our Bloom collection would seem the only place to shop for a piece of green gemstone jewellery this March. The colours of a piece of Malachite stone can vary from intense to pale, making each creation here at W Hamond unique and one-of-a-kind. Ideal for those who appreciate the rarity of a gemstone and its ability to appear different under certain angles of light, the stone exhibits concentric circles and veins that look like no other gemstone.

The unique patterns of Malachite can be admired in creations crafted from 18ct rose gold, yellow gold and white gold, as well as a more affordable option in lustrous sterling silver. Examples include our Bloom Malachite bracelets, featuring a three-piece four-leaf clover design with three carved cabochons in the shamrock shape, or options that showcase just one single four-leaf motif. These designs can be layered and stacked with other creations like our bold Bloom Malachite necklaces, featuring one single crafted four-leaf pendant, or our daintier long necklace design. The latter measures a length of 30 inches and features a total of five four-leaf Malachite motifs, executed in smooth polished frames.
In addition to necklaces and bracelets featuring singular or multiple four-leaf clover motifs, our range of rings is designed to add a bold twist to any attire and feature the four-leaf clover symbol in the same range of materials. Designs vary from smooth polished metal settings to those that feature an intricate beaded edging for more detail and depth. Lastly, for something a little more practical, our Bloom Malachite earrings here at W Hamond are a popular choice for ladies who want to bring a touch of opulence and finesse to their work attire. The earrings, available in yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or silver, attach comfortably to the back of the ears with a classic post and butterfly fastening and can be purchased with a beaded or unadorned edging depending on preference.
From striking centrepiece necklaces to delicate bracelets and understated earrings - our Bloom collection is brimming with inspirational designs and innovative ways to mark St Patrick’s Day 2025.
