Meet the new Garmin Instinct Crossover Smartwatch

Jewellery & Watch News

When it comes to rugged, purpose-built GPS smartwatches, Garmin have already proved themselves. The Garmin Instinct watch collection has long been the brand’s flagship outdoor wearable, offering robust, military-grade cases, monochromatic high-resolution displays and a long list of premium smartwatch features. Now joining the series is the Garmin Instinct Crossover, a design that includes all the above alongside a unique hybrid display.

“We created Instinct Crossover for active lifestyle individuals who prefer the look of a traditional watch but who are ready to tap into the functionality of a modern smartwatch,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice-president of global consumer sales. “By eliminating the need to compromise between tradition and technology, the Instinct Crossover reimagines and redefines the modern adventure smartwatch.”

To create the Garmin Instinct Crossover smartwatch, the Garmin have combined the traditional monochrome, sunlight visible, transflective memory in pixel screen of the classic Garmin Instinct with a pair of timekeeping hands. The two large sword-shaped hands display the hours and minutes and are generously adorned in Superluminova so you can read the time even in the dark. The chapter ring is also a new addition and is similarly adorned with a luminous coating. The hands overlay on top of its digital backdrop and move out of the way when you want detailed smart feature data.

Joining the hybrid display is a new technology called Garmin’s RevoDrive™ analog hand technology. This means each Garmin Instinct Crossover watch will deliver accurate timekeeping even during harsh activities and in difficult environments. If the hands ever get accidently knocked out of sync, the RevoDrive technology will ensure autocalibration to keep users precisely on time.

There are three editions of the Garmin Instinct Crossover smartwatch to choose from. The Garmin Instinct Crossover Standard Edition is powered by a conventional rechargable battery which lasts up to 28 days in smartwatch mode and up to 111 hours in GPS mode. This version is available in Black or Blue Granite. Next up, there’s a duo of Garmin Instinct Crossover Solar watches equipped with the brand’s Power Lens technology. This means the battery is automatically charged by light meaning you’ll get an extended battery life of up to 70 days in smartwatch mode and up to 553 hours in GPS mode. The Garmin Instinct Crossover Solar watch is available in Black or Tidal Blue.

Lastly, there’s a Garmin Instinct Crossover Tactical Edition watch which sports a military-inspired black coated case and black rubber strap. This design is solar-powered as standard, so offers the same 70 day-long battery life in smartwatch mode and is equipped with several additional features for those that are into tactical training. These include night vision compatibility, stealth mode, dual-format GPS, a kill switch feature and Jumpmaster mode.

The new Garmin Instinct Crossover watches are also joined by all the classic functionality as previous Instinct models including GPS tracking, Multi-GNSS support, ABC sensors, TracBack® routing and Reference Point. You can also be motivated by fitness features like a wrist based heart rate monitor, VO2 Max, Pulse Ox2, Fitness Age, Training Status/Load/Effect, HRV Status, and Recovery Time as well as wellness features like advanced sleep monitoring, stress tracking and hydration tracking. There’s also smart notifications, safety and tracking features and the contactless payment solution known as Garmin Pay.
