Oris Launches NEW Rectangular Watch Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

A comeback we weren’t expecting, Oris has relaunched their Rectangular watch collection with a series of four designs beautifully evoking the aesthetics of the Art-Deco period.

While rectangle-shaped watches are nothing new to the luxury watch world, just take the legendary Jaeger LaCoultre Reverso or the Longines DolceVita as an example, Swiss watch manufacturer Oris are rarely thought of for the distinctly parallel design. Their more sporty Aquis models and aviation-inspired Big Crown are certainly more of their best-sellers while their family of Artelier watches is considered their go-to dress watch. With that being said, Oris are not strangers to uniquely shaped watches. They launched their first rectangular watch back in 1996 and several years later launched the original Oris Rectangular watch collection. Over the last few years, the design has been lost to the luxury watch brand’s vast archives, until now, with the collection revived with a stunning series of four unisex watches.

The quartet is undeniably characterised by their slender rectangular cases which measure to 25.5mm in diameter and 30mm in length. They all come finished in classic stainless steel with stunning polished finishing, small knurled crowns at 3 o’clock, tapering lugs and stepped sides. The cases of each Oris Rectangular watch also deliver a 30 metre water resistant rating and sapphire crystal glass for easy legibility of the preppy dials beneath. The case back is also engineered from glass, this time the slightly less scratch resistant mineral glass, which offers an appealing view of the automatic movement housed within.

The movement in question is the Oris Calibre 561 based on the trusty ETA 2761 base. It’s automatic winding and delivers slender central hands for the hours, minutes and seconds as well as a small date window at 6 o’clock. Each Oris Rectangular watch also promises 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a steady 38 hour power reserve.

While rectangular-shaped watches always have a 1920’s appeal to them, there’s something about the dial’s of the new Oris Rectangular watches that are exceedingly Art-Deco. The centrepieces are finished in a choice of four colours: Bordeaux, blue, anthracite and white with each beautifully detailed with railway minutes track, Arabic numerals and slender sword-shaped hands. For the former three dial colours, the tracks and numerals are printed in white while the white-dialled model is finished with black markings for the ultimate contrast. The dials also present an inner railway track adorned with dots for the hour markers.

To pair with each dial, the Oris Rectangular watches are fitted with integrated quick-change leather straps and stainless steel pin buckles. The red, blue and anthracite models all opt for matching coloured straps while white dial stands out for its contrasting yellow leather band.
