About Garmin EPIX Watches

One of Garmin’s best outdoor GPS smartwatches, the Garmin EPIX facilitates adventurers of all kinds with its AMOLED touchscreen display, 16 day battery life and mass of navigational tools. If you're looking for a luxury smartwatch with all this, keep reading to find out everything there is to know about Garmin EPIX watches...

The first-generation Garmin EPIX watch landed in 2015 making history as Garmin’s first ever hands-free navigator. By combining the technology they had already mastered within their handheld navigational devices and satnav systems for cars with the exterior of a premium smartwatch, Gamin created one of their greatest outdoor GPS watches with the Garmin EPIX. Despite its success, the design was eventually phased out and many had forgotten about its fantastic functionality. Then in 2022, the Garmin EPIX Gen 2 watch was launched, maintaining the legacy of the original with fantastic navigational features for use outdoors while delivering a whole host of fitness apps, smart features and an important trait for many, a crisp AMOLED display.

The AMOLED touchscreen display of the Garmin EPIX is a huge selling point for those that want to view full colour maps and animated workouts in crisp full colour. AMOLED screens are not only extremely bright with bold blacks and deep colours, but also incredibly responsive. The screen has a pixel resolution of 416 x 416 and is protected beneath a choice of Corning® Gorilla® Glass or sapphire crystal glass. You can also choose from several colour variations of the Garmin EPIX smartwatch, all measuring 47 millimetres in diameter with steel or titanium elements and accents of red, green, or orange.

As you'd expect from one of Garmin’s best GPS smartwatches, the EPIX comes equipped with all their latest navigational technology. For starters, there’s multi-band GNSS with SatIQ technology to ensure the best positioning accuracy in any environment. This feature also helps optimise the devices battery life which stands at 16 days in smartwatch mode. You'll also get ABC sensors for altimeter, barometer, and compass, an acclimatisation widget, preloaded TopoActive maps, ski maps, golf maps, round trip routing, and turn-by-turn navigation. A useful feature for hikers that like to climb high is the Garmin EPIX 2 smartwatch’s ClimbPro feature which displays real-time information on your current and upcoming climbs, including gradient, distance and elevation gain plus descents and flats.

Alongside this long list of navigational tools, the Garmin EPIX watch delivers a range of sensors and trackers for monitoring your health and fitness. There's a Pulse Ox sensor, a wrist based heart rate monitor, hydration tracking, stress tracking, and sleep tracking as well as a Body Battery Energy Monitor which uses all of the information just mentioned to give you a gauge on whether it's time for a rest day or you're ready to be active. There's also a huge set of preloaded sports apps for every activity you can think of, performance metrics, a real time stamina function, PacePro technology and a Visual Race Predictor, the last two being perfect feature for runners.

The catalogue of apps and features that can be found on the Garmin EPIX smart watch feels almost endless so if you'd like to learn more about the Garmin EPIX and view the full list of specifications, head over to the W Hamond website here.
