Living and working in a beautiful and historic city like York always feels like a pretty good deal. Between the river views, plentiful museums, amazing boutique shopping and countless bars and restaurants to try out there’s always something to do. But as anyone living in an area which is a destination for visitors from all over the world will tell you, it’s the sights on your doorstep that are often overlooked!
Walking around some of the most picturesque streets in the country every day and falling over ancient monuments at every corner can sometimes make you forget how many special things there are to see and do in York.
This is one of the reasons why Visit York in partnership with the City of York Council organise the annual York Residents Festival. It’s a way of saying thank you for the warm welcome York’s residents give to the 7 million visitors. It’s a great way to discover York’s visitor attractions for free and wine, dine and shop using discounted offers. York Residents' Festival is open to all York Residents who have a valid YorkCard .
Attractions as varied as the York dungeons, the Yorkshire museum, the Theatre Royal, Holgate Windmill, Castle Howard house and gardens and York’s only Cold war bunker (to mention just a few!) are opening their doors for free to residents this weekend.
It’s not just the attractions who are offering the lovely residents of York a weekend for themselves, lots of restaurants are offering discounted food and free drinks.
Here at W Hamond York we are very pleased to offer all residents with a York postcode a discount of 10% off any piece of gorgeous, handmade jewellery. Go on treat yourself, you deserve it.
