A Thirst for Yorkshire Gemstones in the Arizona Desert
Friday - 13 March 2015
Proving distance is no object in reaching new customers and introducing them to the Great British Gemstones from North Yorkshire, and Derbyshire, local retail and manufacturing jewellers W Hamond have just finished showcasing their latest collections out in Tucson, Arizona.
For two weeks near the start of every year, Tucson becomes the place to be seen for the world of international gem and mineral trading, buying and discovery. Unlike no other event in the world, the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase happens all across town at more than 40 sites, from giant halls to hotels and sprawling camps of roadside exhibit tents.
Representing Yorkshire and its wonderful Whitby gemstone at the World’s premier gem and mineral show has been an established part of W Hamond’s diary for over 10 years. Enabling both educational and retail opportunities, Director Chris Sellors comments “There is no better place to reach a worldwide audience with what Yorkshire can offer in terms of a unique gemstone, alongside its wonderful heritage. We meet people from every corner of the globe and have, over the years, proved to them the attractions of the UK don’t just stop at seeing those in London.”
As the only British jewellery manufacturer, W Hamond attends two of the biggest shows in town – GJX (Gem & Jewellery Exchange) and the main event run by TGMS (Tucson Gem & Mineral Society). Both provide a unique opportunity to put Yorkshire firmly on the map through their fabulous Whitby Jet pieces, whilst their Blue John collections allow for the same exposure for the county of Derbyshire. Such was the interest in British gemstones this year, the company was a headline feature on KGUN9 – the local TV station – who did a live segment from their TGMS stand.
