Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze Limited Edition Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

There are plenty of good dive watches out on the market at the moment, but one model that has caught our eye recently is the Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze Limited Edition watch. The design comes from Swiss watch brand, Aquadive, who were popular in the 1960’s and 70’s for their incredible dive instruments. Their legendary Time-Depth 50 model with its integrated depth gauge cemented the brand’s name in history as one of the best for dive watches and this model remains one of their most valuable, coveted by collectors to this day.

Unfortunately, Aquadive fell to the quartz crisis in the 1980’s but we were incredibly excited to see them revived a few years ago with some stunning new collections. The Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze watch is one of just a handful of new releases we have seen so far, and we have no doubt there are more to come. Based on the brand’s iconic 1970’s shape, the Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze brings back to life the retro cushion-shaped case now engineered from bronze, a material that has become quite the trendsetter in the industry over the last few years. It is great to see an old name like Aquadive reviving a model like this and staying faithful to their heritage.

The Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze Limited Edition watch is perfect for someone looking for a statement piece that looks the part both on land and in the water. It’s hefty case measures to 43mm wide excluding the crown and 49mm from lug to lug. Despite its larger diameter and its beefy thickness of 15mm, the timepiece sits extremely comfortably on the wrist thanks to the contours of the cushion-shaped case and lugs and the black ISOfrane rubber strap fitted with an Aquadive-signed pin buckle.

The case is cut by CNC from a piece of bronze alloy block, a material renowned for its use in deep-sea diving helmets. Bronze has also become hugely popular in the watch industry over the last few years, not only for its resistance to freshwater and saltwater but for its unique ability to age and change colour over time. When exposed to moisture in the air and pH levels in perspiration, the bronze will develop a natural patina meaning your Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze watch will eventually transform into a completely unique piece bespoke to you.

With its impressive 1,000 metre water resistant case, the Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze Limited Edition watch gives plenty of room for exploring our oceans while the unidirectional ceramic bezel treated with Superluminova is designed to help countdown your oxygen levels while you are down under. It’s healthy water resistance is assisted by an automatic gas relief valve nestled between the strap horns at 6 o’clock and the screw down case back also engineered from marine-grade bronze alloy decorated with the Aquadive logo in the centre and the year of the original design of the watch.

The dial of the Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze watch provides optimal legibility for every environment with a black galvanized backdrop adorned with Superluminova indexes, large Superluminova central hands for hours, minutes and sweeping seconds and an extremely subtle date window at 3 o’clock. All of these functions are powered by the ETA 2836-2 automatic winding movement. The 25 jewelled calibre promises a frequency of 28,800vph, a power reserve of 42 hours and comes with a stop-second regulator system, commonly known as hacking movement, which allows you to set the time down to the exact second.

The Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 Bronze watch is available to order now on the W Hamond website with interest free finance and free next day delivery.
