Jewellery & Watch News
Since 1892, Hamilton have earned a sterling reputation across all aspects of luxury watchmaking and yet their Swiss made movements, aviation heritage and limited edition movie watches are just the beginning. Their prowess for creating enchanting openwork dials that capture the intricate artistry of the mechanical movement inside is one of a kind, and as such has captivated many collectors of skeleton watches. Two of their most famous openwork watches are the Ventura, the famous watch originally worn by Elvis Presley and the Jazzmaster, the reference that today reveals three new gradient dial colours.
While many of Hamilton’s other best-selling collections, like the Khaki Field and Khaki Pilot, offer a strong, utilitarian aesthetic, the Hamilton Jazzmaster sets its eyes on those looking for refined, modern looking timepieces marked by their Swiss made movements. For the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart, the otherwise obvious refinement is the remarkable cut out dial which partly reveals the watch’s beating heart underneath. As the centrepiece, it seems only right that Hamilton have unveiled three new dial colours to expand the collection. In the case of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm, the three new dial colours include dark blue gradient, deep green gradient or a silver-white tone.
Encircling the skeletonised architecture of the dials are arrow-head shaped hour markers to pair with sharp, slender hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. On the green and blue dials, the hardware is nickeled and for the white dial, instant contrast is achieved with the hands and indexes painted in blue. The hour and minute hands on all three Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watches are finished with Superluminova inserts. The Hamilton logo is placed at the 9 o’clock position.
The cases of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart watches maintain the same specifications as previous references with 40mm diameters and a height of 11.05mm. The height allows the cases to sit relatively low on the wrist and as such permits almost any wrist size to pull it off. The cases are completed with brushed and polished finishing, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a choice of two straps per dial colour. The black and blue gradient dials are available on brown calfskin leather straps or steel bracelets while the silver-white dial opts for a blue calfskin leather strap or the same five-row link bracelet.
Lastly, the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watches are equipped with the well-known H-10 automatic winding movement. This is ultimately Hamilton’s version of the Swatch’s Group Powermatic 80 series and offers an impressive power reserve of 80 hours alongside 25 jewels and a frequency of 21,600vph. The Swiss made movement also comes protected by an antimagnetic Nivachron valance spring. You can admire the H-10 calibre through the dial as well as through the exhibition sapphire crystal case back.
