The whale shark is a magnificent fish that typically measure 40 feet in length and weigh over 20 tonnes. Think of an American yellow school bus and you’ve can imagine the size of the beautiful underwater creature and the amount of small fish it needs to consume on a daily basis. Despite their huge size, the whale shark is very peaceful and calm allowing for diver’s to swim close by without fear. However, the friendliest giant in the ocean is severely endangered with their population decreasing by 50% in the last 75 years. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) blames fishing as the main cause of the decline.
