Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition 2020 Watch Set Review

Jewellery & Watch News

Every year Junghans release a new pair of limited edition Max Bill watches, and for 2020, they appear to have entered the dark side with a striking black and white Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition set inspired by the Bauhaus artist’s monochromatic colour scheme.

Having taken over worlds of art, horology and architecture, the name Max Bill instantly demands respect. He was a successful Swiss architect, painter and graphic designer among many other things and was first approached by Junghans in the 1950’s to design a range of clocks and watches. With its clean lines and simple geometry, the Junghans Max Bill collection instantly became a hit boasting the perfect blend of utility value and beauty. Since then, Junghans and Max Bill have become synonymous with contemporary watch design and their continued partnership in this Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition Watch Set is a testament to their pair’s expertise in aesthetics and manufacture.

There are two watches within the Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition 2020 Watch Set, the first a 34mm automatic time and date version known as the Kleine Automatic. The second is a stunning 40mm chronograph or Chronoscope. Both are powered by the J880.1 automatic winding movement and can only be purchases together in the limited edition set of 222 pieces.

The minimalistic design of each timepiece maintains the concepts of Max Bill with deep matte black cases and dials that instantly demand attention. The cases are also equipped with matte black PVD coated stainless steel crowns and/or pushers and smooth black dials decorated with juxtaposing white Arabic dials that provide easy legibility. The centre hands for hours and minutes are also coated in glow in the dark lume for extra readability.

Continuing with the engrossing interplay of black and white, both Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition 2020 watches are fitted with bright white calfskin leather straps and classic black PVD stainless steel pin buckles. And for days when the white might be too much, the set also comes with two additional black calfskin leather straps that can be easily changed over thanks to the quick release system. On the case back, you are also treated to a stunning decoration of Max Bill’s “variation 5” graphic from the "quinze variations sur un même thème" series, a series beautifully depicted throughout the entire set.

With a release date of 28th June 2020, we have some time to kill before these watches arrive. But if you’re impatient like us, you can pre-order your own Junghans Max Bill Limited Edition 2020 watch set on the W Hamond website here to be the first to take delivery of one of the 222 pieces.
