In mythology, Narcissus, after he ignored the love of Echo who died pinning for him, was led to a lake by Nemesis (goddess of retribution). He fell in love with his reflection and wasted away. The gods turned him into a scented flower - the daffodil. With a little irony, Nicola pairs poe, William Wordsworth’s ‘jocund company’ with the humble, yet dazzling, bluebell. As the ‘lonely’ golden flower rests to admire ‘crowds’ of bluebells, which majestically weave their way up the stem of the vase, Narcissus himself may be given a pardon for The Love of Bluebells.
