Jewellery & Watch News
Famed for their pilot watches, Muhle Glashutte are no strangers to creating stunning and high functioning timepieces suited to the brave aviators that take on our skies. Their new Muhle Glashutte Terrasport IV Bronze watches are inspired by these very adventurers that require only the best in terms of precision, performance and durability. With two different dial colours to choose from, these limited edition watches are beautifully engineered from bronze, a material that is currently taking the luxury watch industry by storm.
The 42mm case, crown and grooved bezel are all crafted from CuAI7Si2 bronze, otherwise known as aluminium bronze. The alloy is almost all copper, save for 7% aluminium and 2% silicon and is renowned for its resistance to freshwater and saltwater, hence why it is the material of choice for propellers in the world of shipbuilding. The material has also secured its place as one of the most coveted in the watch industry for its unique ability to age and change colour over time. When exposed to moisture in the air and pH levels in perspiration, the bronze will develop a natural patina meaning there will be 250 limited edition pieces of each Muhle Glashutte Terrasport IV Bronze watch with a unique case bespoke to its wearer.
The finely engraved bronze crown remains characteristic to the Muhle Glashutte Terrasport collection, showcasing an exquisite mushroom shape design that it slightly protrudes from the case making it easy for pilots to grip even with gloves on. The crown is also decorated with a special engraving of a windmill motif perfectly symbolising the elegance of the Muhle Glashutte brand and signifying the German word “Muhle” as mill. To indicate the limited edition status of the new Muhle Glashutte Terrasport IV Bronze watches, the windmill motif is given a three-dimension finish for a special and unique finish.
The Muhle Glashutte Terrasport IV Bronze Limited Edition watches are available in two different dial colours: mocha brown or khaki green. The dials are beautifully decorated with hour markers and hands coated in Superluminova, ensuring legibility on land and in the cockpit. The mocha brown model is paired with a stunning dark brown vintage leather strap while the khaki green is matched with a slightly lighter, tan brown leather strap. Both variations come with a matching bronze pin buckle and are limited to 250 pieces each.
Scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass is found on both sides of the case, housing the dial and the case back where you can see components of the SW 200-1 automatic winding movement hard at work. The 26 jewelled Swiss made calibre promises a power reserve of 38 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It also provides central hands for hours, minutes and seconds and a date window at 3 o clock.
